In 2019, Jonathan became a Public Adjuster and handled more than 1,000 hurricane claims in 2020. He now works as a mediator, appraiser, and umpire. He is a Certified Fire Investigator through the National Fire Academy and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress, a Certified Fire and Smoke Damage Restoration Technician through the IICRC, and a member of the International Association of Arson Investigators.
Jonathan's Mission with Alabama Public Adjusters
In 2020, while working for a Public Adjuster Firm with a vast network of contractors who often followed storm damage across regions, Jonathan Alden experienced a pivotal moment that shaped the future of his career. During the third quarter of that year, a significant hail storm struck Coastal Alabama, prompting his supervisor to urge everyone to obtain licensure in Alabama.

However, after researching the issue, Jonathan learned that Public Adjusting was not a recognized profession in Alabama but was considered the unauthorized practice of law when done by non-lawyers. This revelation led him to a bold decision—he took the Alabama Bar Exam. He had already been licensed to practice law in New York and Florida, so the decision wasn't very difficult.

Jonathan saw a unique opportunity to bridge a gap in the market. Unlike other attorneys, he envisioned himself not only providing legal expertise but also personally inspecting damaged properties and crafting detailed estimates. This hands-on approach allows him to handle claims comprehensively—from the initial assessment to final settlement—as an attorney specializing in adjusting claims.

Jonathan firmly believes this distinct approach sets him apart. By combining his legal knowledge with practical adjusting skills, he offers a seamless and effective service for clients facing insurance claims. Networking and building his reputation in this niche is key, and he is committed to making this innovative vision a reality.
Career Milestones
Jonathan Alden began his career in law enforcement in 1989 as a Police Officer with the Sands Point Police Department in Long Island, New York. He was promoted to Sergeant and served in that role from 2005 until his retirement in 2014.

While serving in law enforcement, Jonathan also worked as an Independent Adjuster for insurance carriers in New York City from 1994 to 2003. His territory included Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Staten Island, where he handled more than 15,000 losses involving collisions and recovered thefts.
After completing law school, Jonathan practiced law in New York beginning in 2007, representing clients in real estate transactions, workers’ compensation, and divorce matters. He earned his Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, where he previously served as a summer intern to Judge Cornelius Blackshear of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York.

In 2019, Jonathan expanded his work into public adjusting and handled more than 1,000 hurricane-related claims during the 2020 storm season. He now serves as a mediator, appraiser, and umpire, drawing on experience from law enforcement, insurance, and legal practice. He is a certified appraiser and umpire through both the Insurance Appraisal and Umpire Association and the Windstorm Insurance Network, and is licensed to practice law in New York, Florida, and Alabama.
